Have you been running yourself ragged lately? With tax time passed and the year speeding along you may feel like you need a bit of balance back in your life. If so, you are not alone. People who push themselves to get a never ending list of to do's done without a single hour left for doing "nothing" often find themselves in debt and out of balance.
The power behind one's financial success or struggle can be glimpsed in the management of our priorities on a daily basis. If we feel as if we are starting off the day, behind the eight ball, and running on empty from the prior day's hustle, then it is unlikely we'll feel like we have anything left to give - let alone anything left to save.
While it may not be easy the simple answer is that the only way to stop the merry-go-round of scrimp and spend is just to STOP. Stop saying yes, when you should say no, stop spending to feel like you can -instead of planning to spend what you want when you can, stop ignoring the 10% savings rule - instead remind yourself regularly 10% of ALL YOU EARN IS YOURS TO KEEP!
A key that is revealed in the great book, The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Claton. In one pivotal chapter the reader is reminded to create a plan for getting out of debt and stick to it. I like to help my clients take a new view of financial success and put themselves in the driver seat - I have them STOP, reevaluate their needs, prioritize their goals, plan their budget and save for their future.
Repeat after me.... "There is more than enough money to go around", again... "There is MORE than enough money to go around". Now, keep repeating it until you feel it all the way down in your toes. Having a hard time believing it? Well, keep working at it because contrary to popular hype money is absolutely everywhere. Just take a long walk down any city street and you'll see the roads are littered with it - only pennies you say - well that my friend is MONEY.
So, if you want some more money just take a walk and pick up every single cent you find and when you get back home you'll not only have a little post-exercise buzz but you will also have MORE MONEY than you started with. Now this all may sound a little silly but it is no sillier than believing that you don't have ANY money. The only real tragedy is that we are so much more willing to believe the later statement. When we do we leave the universe no choice but to oblige and soon enough every penny we receive seems to leave us long before we've gotten a chance to get to the bank.
It is the thought behind these statements that create homeless millionaires or the richest people on the wrong side of the tracks. In the end, as always, it is up to each of us to choose our beliefs and when we do the world rises up to prove us right. As for me, I learned 15 years ago it's just as easy to believe "There is MORE than enough MONEY to go around" and now even easier to add "and it flows in endless waves into my life and my bank accounts" than to suffer a life wallowing in lack. Now's your chance to do the same - go ahead - get out your mental hammer and SMASH the Money Myth!
